Backgammon Guide

Backgammon Guide

Ok Google has now found the site and has it indexed. I linked 2 sites into it and if the theory is correct then my time in the sandbox is now ticking.

I've a few other projects on the go just now which need done first but I will get round to building some relevant information into it soon.

Backgammon Guide

Backgammon Guide

Anyone like playing Backgammon? There are many places to play online and so I'm going to start an internet guide to playing.

I haven't got much time at the moment though so it'll take a while before it gets going. What I've done though is put the rules of the game up on a basic page with nothing else. This way I can get a link or two to the site and then at least it will get looked at by Google.

My aim - to get the site out of the dreaded Google sandbox as quickly as possible after the site is running.

At last - Google has found and indexed all the pages of my site the Uk Shopping Channel. Need to get more links in though.

Chicken Jalfrezi Curry Recipe

Chicken Jalfrezi Curry Recipe

By the way - this is my favourite curry dish that I've made so far. A lovely Chicken Jalfrezi which was submitted to one of the visitors to the site.

Curry Recipes - Cooking up a Spicy Menu

Curry Recipes

Have a look at this new site of mine if your into making curries. There are loads of curry recipes to make and I'd be delighted if anyone wants to send some in for inclusion within the curry recipe site.

This is going to be purely a hobby site for me where I don't make any money but there are no pressures on to obtain good rankings in the search engines.

Google Search

It looks like Google has had another smaller shake-up to its serps results. Google doesn't send me many visitors but when there is some movement it's nice to see if my pages have moved sky-ward.

Doesn't look like it though and some seem to have slipped a bit. Again, less time on producing quality information seems needed and more on links - so frustrating!

Oh well - on with the link swapping.

Frustrated with the Search Engines

This week has seen huge updates with all the leading search engines. Google, Yahoo and MSN Beta to name the larger ones have all changed the serps listings for searches.

Needless to say I've dropped almost all my decent positions and I'm not in the happiest of moods. Google and MSN didn't do all that much for me anyway but I have good listings in Yahoo and they've all gone.

The bit that gets me most with these updates is that they all seem to favour more backlinks and the way they see a sites popularity. For the smaller Webmasters like myself, this is a pain as I've been spending my time, although it's been limited these last few months, on new quality, relevant content rather than link swapping.

It's a shame that rather than content being the foremost positioning tool, swapping links is deemed the best. This just leads to spammy sites obtaining good rankings rather than people who are posting good quality content.

Rant over..... I suppose it's back to swapping links.

Welcome to Gmail

Welcome to Gmail

Gmail is the Google email service. At the moment it's still only accepting new members by invitation only. Every new account gets 6 invitations to send to people. I've a few left. If anyone wants one, let me know.

At last I've managed to iron out all the creases and got things up and running, pop in for a look if you wish.

Now how to advertise the new site. I'm going to try a few targetted and also unspecific ads using Google Adwords and thats about it. I'll post how things go later.

I'm going to experiment a bit with things on this site and I'm mainly interested in Google PPC at the moment. It's been a while since I used them and want to see if things have improved any.

Blizg - THE Blogger Directory

Unfortunately, Blizg.com, will close in two days unless the owners decide to sell it.

Such a pity as the site is full of great blog information and contains 1000's of blog detials. The owner is giving it up due to other commitments. Such a shame. Hopefully he'll sell it and someone else will take on the work.

Work is Ongoing

Work on the UK Shopping Channel is still ongoing, albeit slowly. I'm struggling for time to get much done but after a bit of messing about and a lot of cursing and swearing, I have the XML feed for the search results working and the initial set of pages have been saved although they are empty just now.

I think I'll make a one page site purely showing search engine results for the moment until I get the content used up. At least this way Google will index it and the 'Google Sandbox' time will have started so hopefully the site will get listed in the SERPS quicker after the content is added.

Wait and see how I get on.

Netweavers.co.uk - Web design, hosting and online promotions

This is my new site to promote my site building activities. I'm not looking for anything fancy from the site for for thousands of visitors. It's more somewhere that I can direct people to if they are interested or for others to recommend my site building, seo and site management activities.

Comments would be appreciated. (Constructive please.)

Thanks

I've read a few and would like to continually expand my poker knowledge so any comments on poker books would be great.

PPC Click Fraud

The Warrior Forum - OT - PPC Fraud Question for Oystein

This is a very interesting article for webmasters about Pay Per Click Search Engines and fraudulent clicks.

As most of us have known for a while now, click fraud is rife but this post just shows how bad things really are and how much money the average website can loose when using PPC engines. Something really needs to be done about this but the engines get their money anyway, so why would they bother? Boycotting is ok but other advertisers will pay instead and pick up the one or two relevant clicks that are beneficial.

It's a vicious circle, read the article about the PPC Click Fraud and see what you think for yourself. Sickening.

UK Poker Online - Your guide to playing the best uk poker

UK Poker

I've been fairly quiet on here for a while now, mainly due to the other half making me fit a new kitchen, which cut down my working time drastically. But I'm back and with a new site as well!

www.ukpokeronline.co.uk was created by me as I wanted a UK based poker portal that wasn't full of the usual junk that can be found online. I think its worked well and I'm pleased with the results. There are a few banners on the site which I have to have to pay for hosting, advertising, etc, but on the whole the design is uncluttered and fresh looking.

I'm going to run a few PPC advertising campaigns for the site although I'm aiming mainly for free search engine results. A few PPC campaigns will at least get things going and a few people looking at the site.

Feel free to email any comments you may have about the site design and layout. I'm always interested in criticism so long as it's constructive.

Yahoo!

Yahoo! UK & Ireland - Search results for uk bingo

It looks like Yahoo made some major algorithmic changes yesterday and I, for one, am not complaining. My bingo site Uk Bingo for one has made the top search term for "UK BINGO," which I'm pleased about as this is the keyword I was targetting. It also ranks well for some other good keyword combinations.

My Doolallys site has progressed well as well, with it appearing in the top spot for a couple of terms and in the top 10 for quite a few others.

One thing that has annoyed me a bit was my site Casino Magic it seems to have dropped from the results that it had held good positions for. I'm not too bothered though as these keywords weren't searched on all that much. I have filed a Yahoo complaint though as my top keyword for this site has been replaced by a site that has copied my text for the page in question!! Grrr.... Oh well, hopefully Yahoo will see fit to rectify things but I'm not holding my breath.

Google Blog

Google Blog

Many of the readers here will have heard of GoogleGuy. He is a Google Engineer that frequently posts in various SEO forums around the web giving small insites into what Google is doing. When I say small - he doesn't give a lot away but sometimes a titbit of information that may be of value when trying to get your site more predominantly located in the Google search results.

There isn't an awful lot of information in the Blog but there are one or two items worth note. I'll leave you to find them for yourselves though.

Perhaps a site to keep an eye on? Nice PR10 as well.

Canadian Casinos - At last a selection CAN Dollar Casinos

Canadian Casinos

Added this page to my Doolallys site last night.

It's a bit unfair how everything with online casinos and poker seems to be centred around players wanting to play in pounds, dollars or Euros so I thought I'd add a page for Canadian players.

The casinos reviewed here are top quality and Canadians won't go far wrong with them.

Maybe it's about time I added sections for other nationalities now. Any requests, email me at onlinecasinos@gmail.com and I'll see what I can do.

Yahoo! Submit Your Site

Yahoo! Submit Your Site

This is a link to the official Yahoo Site Submit. You can always pay to get into the Yahoo Directory but for inclusion into the Yahoo listings, this is the easy and free way in.

Since the Google / Yahoo split, Yahoo has come a long way and seems to be becoming more popular all the time. One reason for this may be the way in which Google is filtering their search results so much, irrelevant results are becoming order of the day for them.

Playing Poker Pairs

Playing Poker Pairs

I've just added this page to my Doolallys site discussing how best to play a pair of pocket cards. It's something I've seen many times before, people either under or over playing same value cards.

It's amazing that people can get so excited when they get dealt a pair and then go on to play as if it's a winning hand - even when its only twos of threes!

Anyway I must get back to playing poker in the William Hill Poker Rooms now. This website business doesn't half ruin a good game....ha ha.

Google - What a pain!

Google

A few days ago Google decided to have an update of PR and it's results. This, as happens about once a month, has caused everyone who relies on Google for referrals no end of problems - again.

Some top ranking sites have disappeared down the Google plughole and others are floundering. Of course in retrospect, some sites have done exceedingly well and will gloat about the number of visitors for another month at least.

Where does all this leave the Webmaster of a small site with a small budget? In a lot of cases, he/she can go from doing great to a flop overnight and with no control over it whatsoever.

Now I know that Google has to try and filter out irrelevant results and I know that SEO practitioners will try to get around this and some sites are spam laden but it's getting more difficult for the genuine Webmaster or small site owner to do some optimizing and try to gain better results.

Surely everyone who works hard on their site should expect to be treated fairly?

Google freely changes its mind on what is acceptable or not. In effect it is probably trying to better the results but in a lot of cases it is letting the undesirables in and keeping the honest guy out.

Some of the comments on the changes this month think that the change is to do with links pages, too many reciprocated or not enough is a matter or opinion. Or is it too many link only pages or over optimisation on the pages.

Whatever, Google is running our sites prosperity and is making it harder for the small guy to become one of the big guys. Surely this is why the internet came about? To allow everyone an equal chance of sharing the information and products that they promote? Google doesn't seem to think so. Or have I got it wrong?

Thurso Town Lodge Hotel Caithness, Formerly the St Clair Hotel Thurso

Thurso Town Lodge Hotel Caithness, Formerly the St Clair Hotel Thurso

This is a site that I have just completed. It's a small site featuring a family run hotel which is local to me.

I'm starting to build small sites for people to try to stabilise my income a bit. The site for this small hotel in Thurso was to help out some friends of mine and build up a portfolio that I can then promote to other businesses throughout my local area. (When I get the time!)

I feel that building small sites, for smaller amounts of money is an excellent way of attracting new business. It builds up a nice portfolio, lets you get some self-promotion and asking for recommendations from the hotel owners should help as well. A great way for someone starting a small business to get it off the ground.

What a Week!

I'm back after a seriously crap week.

My computer caught a cold or something (could it have been the Trojan I'm reading about?) Anyway, it kept on rebooting itself more and more until I reckon something went on the motherboard as it would not boot up at all, even another hard disk. I checked out everything on the PC and it was definately the motherboard but I wonder what caused it all.

Of course to make things worse the Laptop started playing up as well and when I connected to the net, it was blasting my data to somewhere but I couldn't find out where. It must've been a virus but it even managed to disable Norton.

Luckily, I had most of my data backed up on a USB Hard Drive I bought a week earlier!

However, I've made it back with a new all singing, all dancing PC now all I have to do is catch up on everything I didn't manage to get done. This includes getting the darn laptop up and running although a new installation of Windows seems to have done the trick so far.

I only do this part-time and have also started to build sites for others as well. Of course last week a few new customers wanted stuff so I've a busy couple of weeks ahead.

Gambling Portal Webmasters Association

Gambling Portal Webmasters Association
I've been a member of the GPWA for about a year and a hlaf now and it's been of great service to me in assisting with the day to day running of my casino and poker room portals.

The main part of the GPWA is a forum where gambling webmasters get together to discuss what works for them, what doesn't, the best affiliate programs and general resources to assist with site building and maintenance.

It's a common hang-out of mine and although it's had it's ups and downs in the past is a reliable resource of gambling site information. Anyone who runs or plans to run such a site should check it out sooner rather than later.

I don't participate in many forums, mainly due to the time that they tend to take up in my busy schedule but I always find the time to read the posts there and often make a post or two myself.

Pay Per Click Search Engine Reviews

Pay Per Click Search Engine Reviews

While spending a morning creating new PPC ads for my Doolallys website, I came across this rather nifty looking PPC search engine site.

I've often scouted around for good sites like these that try to offer fairly unbiased advice on where to spend my hard earned cash to attract new people to my site. This is definately one of the better ones and seems to provide good content and reviews. It's easy to navigate and the details on each PPC engine are concise and to the point. The pros and cons section appeals to me and seems fairly up to date and obviously some thought have gone into them.

One of the better sites for PPC interested parties.

mmm...

This is the first post in my Blog and its 01:20 in the morning. I really should go to bed but I'm still on a bit of a high after playing online poker in the William Hill Poker Rooms for the last few hours. Didn't win but I was playing in a poker tournament and came 13th out of 61, which I didn't feel was too bad considering I played in my first one last night.

However, thats another few hours away from my sites and I really must do more to keep them growing and keep up with the new projects I have coming on board.

My main site is Doolallys and although the first page needs sorting out (too many banners) I think that the rest of the site has some good content. I have one or two decent keyword placings but I'm going to try and improve these soon and I'll be posting how I get on in the coming weeks or months. This blog may even turn out to be of some assistance to new webmasters trying to learn various methods for SEO etc. At least they can learn from some of my huge mistakes.

Anyway bed now I suppose. Later.
